Avram Iancu Square
Avram Iancu Square is one of the biggest squares in Cluj and 'houses' many important buildings in the city.
Perhaps the most imporant buildings on Avram Iancu Square are the Orthodox Cathedral and the National Theatre.
The National Theatre building is the seat of the "Lucian Blaga" National Theatre and the Romanian Opera.
Construction work of the National Theatre was excuted by the construction firm Helmer and Fellner and was completed in 1906.
The building is constructed in a baroque-rococo style and has a capacity of 1000 seats and three rows of lodges.
The Orthodox Cathedral was built between the years of 1920-1930 and is one of the main religious buildings in Cluj. The cathedral was built in the Byzantine style and has a height of 64 meters and 8 towers.
In front of the cathedral is the statue of Avram Iancu, in memory of the personality from Romanian history Avram Iancu. The statue was made in 1995 by the sculptor Elias Berindei.
